So this was definitely the craziest week so far. It all started with breakfast on Monday. It was my favorite eggs and sausage and I got so excited to eat it. I got ketchup to put it in and mixed it in like I always do. I started to eat it and realized it was barbeque sauce! I could just tell that it was going to be a bad day. It definitely ruined the morning. Then we had gym.
At gym I was doing some physical therapy for my ankle (by the way it's fine now and I’ve been cleared) when all of the sudden I see this elder fall on his back and hold his foot in the air. His foot was at a 90 degree angle. It didn't look good. So I left the doctor room so they could use it for him. After that I got an impression that I should go talk to Elder M. in the corner. I asked him how his day was and he told me that he had just taken 20 ibuprofen. He told me he wanted to die and just go to sleep forever. I was freaking out. I had no clue what I needed to do, so I said a prayer in my head. I kept talking and I was about to leave to go get help when he said he was joking, after he told me about 5 times that he really did take that many pills. So I didn't know what to think. I was still going to get help because I really did think he took them and he was having some serious suicidal thoughts. I got the zone leaders and told them what happened. They didn't really seem to take it as a big deal and they kept on playing basketball. So I just decided that I had to take this into my own hands and be the leader. I quickly found his companion and we saw Elder M. running back to the dorm. The zone leaders went and chased him back to the room while I ran with his companion to the front desk to call the branch president. The branch president said he was on his way.
So we ran back to the room and found Elder M. being pinned by two elders on his bed who were trying to get him to throw up. They said that when he ran into the room they caught him taking 5 or 6 more pills. When we heard this we knew it wasn't a joke now. His companion and I RAN faster than ever to the front desk and got a paramedic. We came back, each holding a big paramedic bag. Once we got there he was looking pretty bad. Like about to pass out or something. So we got him off the top bunk and carried him to the paramedic van. And keep in mind that this guy is BIG. They took him to the ER.
After this we all just went to class because there was nothing else we could do. We find out later from the doctor that it was all a fake. He only took 4 or 5 pills and he faked everything. He was just lying about his whole life basically. He said that his dad and sister died the day before and they found out that they didn't. It was just a huge mess. Since he was from Honduras, they didn't want to send him home. But after they found out that he basically had an entire lie of a life story they had no choice. And he left this morning.
And everyone is all stressed and shocked because he was such a nice elder. It sucks. But I learned that if one lie is told, it is so easy to turn into a second one, and so on. And then before you know it, it has gotten out of your hands. Lies are such an invisible sin that do so much damage. So that story was pretty much the focus of this whole week.
On Tuesday for devotional we has Dallin H. Oaks' daughter Jenny Oaks Baker. She is a professional violinist and plays for the National Symphony and went to Julliard and all this fun stuff. But she taught us how much music can really teach and bring the spirit into our lives. She played a bunch of songs while giving a talk. It was way cool.
I know that this gospel is so true. I know that god personally knows us and can help us through our trials no matter what they are. I know that through faith in Jesus Christ, repentance and baptism I can bring people unto Christ which is my purpose as a missionary.
Have a great week!
Love,
Elder Gygi
