Questions about Elder Gygi's Daily Life

Often times as family and friends, we wonder how a missionary spends their days. We sent Taylor a bunch of questions about his routine and these are the responses:

Q. How many discussions do you teach on an average day?
A. There are good and bad days. Sometimes we teach just one lesson, sometimes we teach 10. Usually we teach 4-7 lessons.

Q. Missionaries do a lot of community service. What type of service do you do?
A. We have trimmed huge trees; yard service; worked at Madera Vineyard Welfare Farm; the best was changing the brake plates of a BMW Z4! ( :-)Just like his momma)

Q. Missionaries can go to mormon.org. What do you do when you are on that website?
A. We watch videos of members. We need to familiarize ourselves with the videos so we will know who our investigators will relate to. Go watch President Gelwix' profile. 


Q. Have you really gained 10 pounds? Do your suits still fit :( ? 
A. Yes my suits still fit :)
 
Q. Why have you gained 10 pounds, good food perhaps?
A. Carnitas! (Cafe Rio pork w/rice & beans!!!) All you can eat :)


Q. Do you eat with members everyday?
A. Usually every other night. Mostly the food is great. But I don't like these enchilada things with cottage cheese-like stuff inside. NOT GOOD! That's what I had my first night here. There were little baby crickets on them as if they were sprinkles on ice cream... eewww!!!


Q. What do you do for breakfast and lunch?
A. Just eat cereal or make french toast. We're usually so busy we never eat lunch and sometimes we even miss dinner.


Q. Are you in a ward or a branch?
A. Sanger Ward, Fresno East Stake.


Q. How many members attend Sunday services? How many investigators?
A. Just a full chapel worth. Not the back gym area like ours in Las Sendas. We usually have 3-6 investigators. We only had one investigator yesterday :(


Q. Have you had to speak in church?
A. Nope! (Brother Bench is not here!)


Q. What are your p-days like?

A. We wake-up at 6:15am. Do laundry. Shower and eat till 8am. Then we have personal study from 8-9am, companion study until 10am. We have language study from 10-11am. Next we go to Walmart for groceries and wash the car. We do emails from 12-1pm. We play basketball from 1-2pm. We come home to clean the apartment and shower until 3pm. we write letters until 5:30pm and then are out the door proselyting from 6-9pm. The best part is having FHE with members from 7-9pm. 


Q. If we send you any food cards, what types?
A. Unfortunately no Delsky or Wendy's here :( I eat tons of Subway. There is no McDonald's here. Cash lets us eat wherever we can. 


Q. Do you spend time studying Spanish everyday?
A. Yes, everyday except Sundays. I study for 1 hour. I read the Book of Mormon in español and study grammar.


Q. What is a missionary hair style like?
A. A new mission rule: every elder must part their hair.


Q. Have you felt any earthquakes yet?
A. Not yet! That'd be sweet though!

Taylor loved this way of answering questions. It saved him a lot of time, and missionaries don't have a lot of spare time.
