Thanks for the encouraging and uplifting letter! I had a better week. We had some great lessons as well as an exchange.
President Gelwix has this new, inspired program called
"ATM" (Awake The Members). We go visit the members and give a short 20-minute inspired lesson. Elder Luna and I were talking about who we
could do an ATM with, and I remembered that the stake president was in our
ward. So I figured we should start the missionary work in the ward with him. We went over to his house yesterday afternoon and had an amazing ATM
lesson. The Spirit was definitely there and bore witness to each of us that
everyone knows someone who has already been prepared for the gospel in their
lives. We just have to pray and use Moroni's promise to find out who it is.
This past week I went on my first Hmong exchange! It was so much
fun! And I officially give you props, Mom. You must have studied crazy hard to
be able to talk with the Chinese people in Hong Kong. It was just fun to listen to. I was with
Elder Boyington. He's from lots of places, just like me. And his dad does the
same thing that dad does. He was living on the embassy compound in Tokyo for a
while.
The exchange was so much fun. And I learned a lot about the Hmong
people. I was also dying to try some sort of Hmong food, so we went to a Hmong
store and got a dessert called Najvam, pronounced Nava, (there is a photo at the end of what it looks like). It was this
weird.... I honestly don't even know.... with green slimy worm Jell-O
thingies. But it was fun to eat. And I got a Hmong name! My name is
"Muaj Meej Muas". It means "to have a good reputation". I want to get a
missionary tag in Hmong with that on it.
We went to see a recent convert named C. We go over to his house
and he's not feeling too good and asks us to take him to the hospital. He
thought he was having a stroke because of the symptoms he was having. His left
side of the face was paralyzed and stuff like that. So he asks for a blessing. And
we gave him one and went to the car to go to the hospital. And on the way
there, all his symptoms just stopped. The power of the priesthood is real.
I learned on the exchange that there is a reason that everyone is
called to preach in the language they are assigned to. And that the promise in
the book of Mormon that everyone will be taught in their own tongue in their
home nation is truly being fulfilled.

How's Jordan doing? Could you print off his emails for me again?
I know the gift of tongues is real. I know that President Gelwix's
trainings are inspired specifically for us. I know that the priesthood is real
and can literally heal according to the faith of those who need it. Missionary
work is the best.
Have a good week!
Love,
Elder Gygi
