Notes from Elder Ballard

Here are a few of my notes from Elder Ballard's visit for a Mission Conference: June 14, 2012

“We underestimate what the power of the priesthood can do. With the power of the priesthood we can go into homes and help them feel something. We do it by teaching the Doctrine of Christ.”
Speaking of the power of the priesthood, “You are entitled to that kind of prompting. You will have these experiences on your mission if you stay worthy and focused.”
“The gospel is everything in life. As you get older you will recognize how precious the gospel is.” (A thought of mine, as you serve and get “older” as a missionary do you more fully realize how “precious” the gospel is?)
“You are here under the direction and power of the keys of the holy apostleship.”
“Your Heavenly Father knows you and loves you and the Savior of the world is pleased with you as you go out to the people in your area.”
“Proselyting is talking to people wherever you find them.”
“Build relationships with ward members and you will know how to generate people with whom you can have teaching opportunities.”
“Teach with understanding.”
Speaking about occasional discouragement, “You will have those days when it’s hard, Lucifer is discouraging you, it’s 110°, and you’re in the lone and dreary world. You should not feel bad about these feelings. We all do sometimes feel ‘weary in the work.’” To fight off discouragement and to get your strength back, “focus on the life and ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
“When you have difficult moments, think about Gethsemane. When I wonder if I can do my many assignments, I think of Him.”
“You are changing. There is a mighty change in your heart. You can’t always see it, but your mission president can.”
“It is possible to have an intellectual knowledge of the gospel. This is good, but we have to take it from here (pointing to his head) to here (pointing to his heart).”
“I bless you with the capacity to take these wonderful teachings and keep them simple. Lucifer makes things complicated. He is the ‘Master of Complexity'. The gospel of Jesus Christ is simple. It is faith, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.”
“Missionaries know they can be put anywhere in the world. These missionaries turn it over to the Lord.”
“You are entitled to call down the powers of heaven. The Holy Ghost will bring all things that Jesus Christ said to your remembrance.”
“Don’t get lazy on companion study! Do it every day including Preparation Day and Sunday.”
Speaking of the process of revelation, “We know His promptings come after doing things in His name. A strong internal impression that hits and I know without reservation what the Lord wants done. This is the same process that investigators go through in your teaching.”
Speaking on how to give and take correction, “Gently and lovingly," read D&C 121.
“This battle between good and evil is going to accelerate.”
“We cannot teach one another if we have not the spirit.” He then quoted D&C 42:14.
“If you connect with heaven and then become casual in your prayers you will be lonesome.”
“The world wants us to know something. The gospel challenges us to become something.”
“We are growing closer to that day when Christ will come again as the ‘King of kings.’ The signs of the times indicate we are living in the last days.”
Speaking of his fellow members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, “We’re fairly cool!”
